About Sealife Blackpool
Sealife Blackpool is a stunning piece of architecture with its white-wash facade, and curvy polished glass and steel, located in the centre of Blackpool’s Golden Mile Promenade. It’s one of the most extensive oceanic and freshwater life centres in Britain, offering an entralling family day out that the weather cannot put a dampener on, not to mention being a pioneering maritime conservation institution. Sealife Blackpool ticket holders have unfettered access to over 50 underwater exhibits, including The Lost City Of Atlantis, with its re-created ruins and tentacled gatekeeper, the giant octopus. Other eye-catching facets of the family attraction are a glass walkway surrounded by sharks, a Touch Pool that runs demonstrations on a daily basis, and an Amazonian rainforest situated in the AmaZone, with its population of flesh-eating piranha fish. It includes running freshwater streams, mist and no less than 80 freshwater species, including lethal poison dart frogs.
The Phantoms Of The Deep features jellyfishes from all over the world, including lagoon, compass, upside-down and edible jellyfish. Among the other sea and freshwater animals inhabiting Sealife Blackpool are sharks, stingrays, seahorses, and Gary the Grouper, weighing in at a whopping 20 stone!
The Sealife Blackpool café has lovely sea views, in addition to a soft play area, slide and ball pits, and feeding demonstrations that are staged regularly through the day, bolstering the educational side of a fun family day out. Guided tours of the Centre can be pre-booked, reinforcing the special nature of a family day out at Sealife Blackpool.
Another must-see at Sealife Blackpool is the underwater galleon in The Legend Of Blackbeard pirates exhibition, with its sumptuous Caribbean Reef, sharks and bands of fish that swim about the wreck. Tales of seaborne adventure are relayed by one of Blackbeard's shipmates and, landlubbers be aware, there’s a three-section 180 degree tunnel to spot Sealife Blackpool’s packs of ever-moving sharks. In addition, there are no fewer than 10 small tanks holding seahorses, others with various types of sea snake, and a ton of rock pool residents, like crabs and starfish.
The Shoreline tank features home-sourced albino sharks and live shark egg cases, back-lit so as to allow ticket holders to see the baby sharks developing inside them – a literal family attraction that you won’t get on just another family day out. The Quayside tank has dogfish and a walkway round it that allows examination from wheelchairs, as do all of Sealife Blackpool’s displays. The Victorian pier boasts Manta Rays and Sting Rays, while Black tip sharks and Nurse sharks are on show as well. Just the ticket for those wanting to confront Jaws in the flesh!
A ticket to the family attraction takes in Sealife Blackpool’s Gift Shop and Education facilities, meaning an informative as well as fun family day out is assured. Open every day of the year, except for Christmas Day, and with seven zones to visit, there’s a ruck of fun on offer for a corking family day out.
