Friendly neighbourhood Octopus!

Staff arrived for work at Blackpool Sea Life Centre to discover that one of their star attractions had moved home during the night!

Displays supervisor Carey Duckhouse was initially horrified to discover that the Perspex cover on Tony the common octopus’s tank had been forced aside…and Tony was missing.

Then she checked the lobster tank next door, and sure enough there was Tony clinging to the window looking perfectly content.

“Octopuses are notorious escape artists,” said Carey, “but we really thought there was no way he could shift the lid of his tank.

“We obviously underestimated his strength because he managed to move it over an inch, and that was more than enough to let him squeeze through.”

Tony gave himself up without a fuss when Carey came to remove him from the lobster tank.

“He knew he’d been busted and swam straight into the net to be returned to his rightful home.”

Carey and her colleagues suspect his short migration may simply have been down to curiosity.

“He’s been in his tank for a few weeks now, so I suspect he just wanted to meet the neighbours.”

Carey and colleagues are now keeping a close eye on the lobster, however, who clearly resented the invasion and has been staging a protest ‘sit-in’ beneath a large rock ever since.
