About Sealife Loch Lomond

Sealife Loch Lomond is located at the impregnable Drumkinnon Tower, Ben Lomond Way, in Balloch, Scotland. It sits in splendid scenery not far from Dumbarton and is the Britain’s latest Sealife centre – the first opened in 10 years – and although it caused something of a minor furore when it was first unveiled, because of questions about the  appropriateness of a family attraction in such a picturesque locale, it’s gone on to be recognised as a top family day out and is one of the country’s cutting edge institutions in its field. 

Sealife Loch Lomond is a family attraction boasting all manner of Scottish sea and freshwater species, with more than 25 displays containing inhabitants of the Clyde Estuary and the North Sea, along with creatures from farther flung shores, including the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Among the exotic animals that can be seen by ticket holders on a family day out are sharks, stingrays and seahorses, while its conservation enterprises include a growing Otter Sanctuary. The Asian Short Clawed Otters that reside there are a highlight of a family day out and their territory takes in a cascading waterfall and full-flood stream. What they get up to makes a fun family day at Sealife Loch Lomond all the more enjoyable. 

Native species are represented by freshwater minnows, Perch, Trout, Stickleback and Eels, as well as sea fauna such as Cod, Bass, Skate and stingrays.

The Tropical Ocean Display contains a re-created submerged wreck – the SS Sea King – which was put together not far away on the river Clyde, and its observation tank teems with tropical fish and sharks, not to mention the eye-catching wreckfish, all of which can be viewed from a transparent tunnel as a key element of a ticket to the family attraction. One more thrilling aspect of a family day out at Sealife Loch Lomond is the diurnal parading of numerous sea creatures by their handlers, with ticket holders given the chance to experience a close encounter with all manner of crustaceans. 

The Finding Nemo tank features Clownfish and Blue Tang, which were the basis for the Nemo and Dory characters in the cartoon feature, and related gifts from the shop, adjoining the café, are available to purchase. 
The Sealife Loch Lomond centre also possesses more than 20 species of tropical fish, including half a dozen black tip sharks, a couple of nurse sharks and a zebra shark tagged Sir Bobby Robson (after the ex-Newcastle and England soccer team coach!).  

As well as information on hand about freshwater exhibits from nearby Dumbarton and the Clyde Estuary, Sealife Loch Lomond holds regular lectures about more exotic beasties including Sharks, Seahorses, Otters and stingrays. Further, groups of school children are offered tailored educational opportunities over and above those for ticket holders on a fun family day out. Just the ticket. 

Besides all that, Sealife ticket holders have access to audio-visual exhibits and a touch pool, ensuring an enlightening and enjoyable family day out that the weather cannot put a dampener on, thus providing a super family day out for everybody
